About Us

Our Mission

The mission and purpose of the Ohio Student Government Association (OSGA) is to:

  • Represent the interests and preserve the rights of the students of higher education in the State of Ohio
  • Work with and lobby various government entities to initiate positive changes on behalf of students, particularly students at the 14 public institutions in the State of Ohio
  • Foster the educational goals and promote citizenship and civic responsibility among students
  • Serve as a single mouthpiece for the over 500,000 students in Ohio
  • Coordinate the efforts of all of the Student Body Presidents statewide

OSGA aims to promote citizenship and civic responsibility among students statewide and foster the educational  and professional goals of the students of Ohio.

Executive-Director

D.K. Adrian Williams - 

Adrian is a neuroscience major and an aspiring physician-scientist with a passion for the intersection between healthcare, public policy, and politics. He has experience in neuroscience, computational biology, and bioinformatics research laboratories and is currently working on publishing one of his research projects with Harvard Medical School. 

He is also a member and former president of the Multicultural Association of Pre-Medical Students and is involved in congressional and international politics, having assisted on a successful political campaign, testified on a number of bills, and lobbied on behalf of students to over 50 representatives and senators on the state and federal level, along with international officers of health in the World Health Organization at the UN building in Switzerland. He is Wright State University’s 2017-2018 Newman Civic Fellow and was elected to serve as student body vice-president. 

In his free time he loves to golf, make and play music, and spend time with his friends and family.

Kevin Jones - 

Kevin Jones is a junior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Policing & Investigative Studies. Kevin joined SGA during his freshman year being the Southwest Ambassador for the COLAG. After taking a break from SGA in his sophomore year to revamp Black Men on the Move as the President, he was offered another opportunity as the first ever Associate Director of Diversity & Inclusion in SGA. Outside of SGA, Kevin serves as a student conduct panelist, and the first ever President Emeritus to Black Men on the Move. 

Kevin is passionate about politics, and local involvement in the community through volunteer work. He is the first ever Legislative Intern for the City of Columbus’ City Council Division of Community Engagement, former intern for the Columbus Urban League and he holds many more experiences.

Steven J. Farhat-  

 

Steven J. Farhat, of Ravenna, Ohio, and graduate of Ravenna High School in 2016, is a Junior Integrated Social Studies Education major at Kent State University. Steven discovered at a early age that his passions consist of serving his community, making a difference and helping others. In order to pursue these passions in his career, Steven aspires to be both an educator and civic leader upon graduating.  

 

Steven was elected to the position of Associate Executive Director in April 2019. Steven is also serving his second term as a Senator on Kent State Undergraduate Student Government. In addition to accomplishing multiple initiatives to improve his academic college, Steven has made it his mission to give students a voice on Undergraduate Student Government at Kent State.  He believes that Undergraduate Student Government can only be an effective institution if every student has a voice. As Associate Executive Director, Steven plans on creating ways that encourages students to become involved in their college’s Undergraduate Student Governments, as well as tackling issues such as academic affordability, sustainability and initiatives to help commuter students. 

 

Passionate about civics and local involvement, Steven is also involved in multiple civic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, Main Street Ravenna, Immaculate Conception Church, and the Portage County Republican Central Committee.  

 

In his spare time, Steven enjoys being outdoors, spending time with friends and family and volunteering in his church and community.

Michael Johnston - 

Michael Johnston, of Elida, Ohio, and graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High, is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences at Bowling Green State University. He is studying Biology and Computer Science with aspirations to attend law school and become a patent attorney. He is a senator on Undergraduate Student Government, ambassador for the Honors College, brother of Theta Chi Fraternity, and swim coach for the Ft. Meigs Stingrays Swim Team.

In his free time Michael enjoys everything to do with swimming. Whether it's swimming laps of his own or coaching athletes from the deck, you can always find him around the water.  

Conference Coordinator

De'Aja Garner - 

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, De’Aja Garner is a sophomore at Central State University majoring in English with a minor in Communications. Passionate about a wide variety of things, she aspires to one day work in an environment that promotes creative freedom. De’Aja was elected as SGA’s Student Affairs Senator spring of 2017. In this position, she strives to promote unity amongst the student body. She serves as a liaison between students and the Vice President of student affairs. She plans and facilitates programs and events geared towards student engagement outside of the classroom.

The Conference Coordinator position peaked De’Aja’s interest because she felt it directly aligned with the responsibilities she withholds as a student, a leader and a professional. Being that this will be the first time this conference has been held at a historically black university, De’Aja looks forward to creating a atmosphere that is both welcoming and insightful for the entire OSGA.
In her spare time, she enjoys: reading, dancing, and mixing music. De’Aja is delighted to have the opportunity to serve Ohio SGA members and looks forward to having a successful outcome and year.
